SAP Security Patch Day – December 2020
In December 2020, to be precise on Tuesday the 8th, SAP has released critical (Hot News and High priority) security patches for the products:
– SAP NetWeaver AS JAVA
– SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform
– SAP Business Warehouse, SAP BW4HANA
– SAP AS ABAP(DMIS) (updated)
Highlights
In this month’s article we want to highlight 3 SAP Security Notes, starting with correction Note #2974774, rates with CVSS 10. The note preserves a missing authentication check in SAP NetWeaver AS JAVA, within the P2P Cluster Communication. It is recommended to update the J2EE ENGINE SERVERCORE to a minimum patch level mentioned in the SAP Note. The AS JAVA Cluster Architecture is used to increase scalability and reliability.
The P2P Cluster Communication component manages to exchange the messages between server nodes in the cluster. The correction is needed to remove a vulnerability accepting arbitrary connections, even connections from outside the cluster. Since the vulnerability is critical, our experts recommend you to update to the appropriate patch level. Note #2974774 also contains a workaround for companies who cannot timely update their AS Java instances.

For SAP BW Master Data Management and SAP BW4HANA a coding correction was provided which ensures the exploitation of a code injection vulnerability is eliminated. While for release 730 a hard-coded check was introduced, starting with 740 the function will be decommissioned after installation of Note# 2983367. Please install the patch using transaction SNOTE.
With Note# 2989075 [CVE-2020-26831], SAP provides a correction for SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform particularly for Crystal Reports). Attackers may be able to inject arbitrary XML entities which due to insufficient validation lead to Server Side Request Forgery (SSRF) or denial-of-service (DoS).
