Challenges
The heterogeneous SAP landscape, which includes S/4HANA systems and older SAP ECC, poses major challenges for IT2media in meeting its customers’ expectations for SAP Security. IT2media’s parent company, the Sellwerk Group, and its customers—various telephone directory publishers and media companies—recognized that SAP systems exposed to the internet are particularly vulnerable and must therefore be protected.
SAP Security requires specialized knowledge and expertise that are difficult for medium-sized companies to obtain. Therefore, in 2023, IT2media turned to its long-standing SAP Basis partner, TakeASP AG from Würzburg. TakeASP has been overseeing and monitoring IT2media’s SAP landscape using the SAP Solution Manager, which has been operating 24×7. Now, a comprehensive yet modular solution for SAP Security should be evaluated and then implemented.
Solution
TakeASP AG had already expanded its service offering to include SAP security topics at an early stage. Since the SAP on-board resources are insufficient and the monthly SAP patch day consumes a lot of resources, various solutions were evaluated by SAP security specialists. The SecurityBridge Platform proved to be the best way to meet IT2media’s requirements. This was confirmed in November 2023, with the establishment of a pilot environment, which was transferred to productive operation shortly afterwards.
The modular approach of the SecurityBridge platform allowed IT2media to concentrate on Threat Detection, Patch Management, and Security & Compliance for its older SAP ECC systems. For the S/4HANA systems, the complete scope of the platform was used, including Identity Protection, Interface Traffic Monitor, and Code Vulnerability Analyzer.

Thanks to the support of TakeASP AG in implementing and operating the SecurityBridge Platform, IT2media was able to quickly implement and meet its customers’ SAP security requirements, while also building up its own internal expertise.
By checking custom developments in the ABAP code for vulnerabilities right from the start in the S/4HANA systems, IT2media effectively avoids future legacy issues. Additionally, the assignment of authorizations for the RFC interfaces is minimized. With SecurityBridge Patch Management, monthly patching is no longer a problem, and the SAP team can focus on system hardening. The “Security & Compliance” roadmap helps to prioritize and efficiently implement the most important SAP security measures.
