SAP Security Patch Day – September 2020

On 8th of September 2020, SAP Security Patch Day saw the release of 10 new Security Notes. There were 6 updates to previously released Security Notes. We strongly recommend to carefully revisit the September release as critical vulnerabilities have been resolved.

The term “Hot News” is used by SAP for patches with a very high rating based on the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS). Amongst the four patches classified as Hot News, you should especially look at 2890213. It fixes a missing authentication check vulnerability in SAP Solution Manager, particularly in the User-Experience Monitoring (Component: LM-SERVICE). The correction was published on the 25th of August 2020 and has reached its 9th version since SAP released it via their online support platform. Already in March 2020, SAP released another patch for the component LM-SERVICE for which we have created a Security Advisory 2845377.

Also, 2958563 another Hot News correction preventing an ABAP code injection and is relevant for system running SAP_BW component appears to be very relevant, at first sight. Since the component exists in many installations. Looking into the details of the corrections we found it is only relevant for specific database systems DB4 or Sybase.
